Under the direction of the Iraqi National Security Advisor, H.E. Mr. Qasim Al-Araji, the Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies held an expanded specialized meeting to discuss the outcomes of the Berlin Climate Security Conference (BCSC), with the participation of representatives from a number of relevant ministries and government entities, within the framework of enhancing national integration in addressing climate security challenges.
During the meeting, the most prominent recommendations issued by the conference were reviewed, particularly those related to the interlinkages between climate change and national security issues, water resource management, climate-induced migration, and long-term strategic planning. Participants also discussed mechanisms for aligning these outcomes with national priorities, in a manner consistent with the government’s vision to enhance stability and reduce vulnerability resulting from environmental pressures.
The Center emphasized the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach that links environmental, economic, and security dimensions, stressing the need to develop effective adaptation policies, strengthen institutional coordination among the concerned ministries, and activate pathways for international cooperation in the field of climate security.
