The Economic Studies Department at the Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies, in cooperation with the United Company, held a specialized conference on localizing the precious metals industry in Iraq. The conference took place at the Rashid Royal Hotel Hall in Baghdad.

The conference highlighted the importance of building a national industrial base in the field of precious metals, in a way that contributes to reducing reliance on imports, maximizing local value added, and opening new horizons for investment and employment. Participants also discussed the opportunities available to Iraq in the fields of refining, manufacturing, and gold jewelry production, in addition to mechanisms for technology transfer and the development of technical capacities.

Speakers emphasized that localizing this industry represents a strategic step to support the national economy and diversify sources of income, especially in light of the growing demand for gold and precious metals in local and regional markets. They also stressed the importance of updating legislative frameworks and providing an attractive investment environment, alongside strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors.

The conference was attended by a number of experts, specialists, business leaders, and representatives of companies participating in the exhibition, during which views were exchanged on the challenges facing the sector. These challenges include infrastructure requirements, quality assurance, regulatory mechanisms, as well as the importance of adhering to international standards in production and marketing.
