Afforestation of Industrial Cities to Enhance Environmental Sustainability

The Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies / Energy, Water, and Environment Department, in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Minerals / the General Company for Project Design and Execution, held a specialized workshop entitled “The Role of Phytoremediation in Achieving Environmental Sustainability for Iraqi Industrial Cities.”

The workshop included discussions on the role of afforestation in reducing pollutants and heavy metals resulting from production processes in industrial cities, with emphasis placed on the importance of selecting appropriate plant species to ensure the achievement of the best environmental outcomes.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants presented a number of recommendations to be submitted to the relevant authorities in support of sustainability initiatives and to enhance the implementation of phytoremediation applications in Iraqi industrial cities.
